Legislation, Regulations, Policies, Risk Assessments, Method Statements, PPE, Training and a whole load of other jargon and fancy terms. You just don’t have the time for it, nor the desire? If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

So why are you visiting this site, then? Something niggling you? Has there been an accident at work or a couple of near misses? Are you concerned the HSE might make a visit? Or is that Health and Safety Questionnaire attached to a Tender still sat on your desk because you don’t know where to begin?

Health and Safety’s a chore? Right?

If only you had somebody in your business with all the skills, knowledge, and training to look after it, you’d feel a whole lot better, wouldn’t you?

Somebody who can look at your business and work out where you’re at and what to do about it?

Someone who can create a simplified way of working and tick all the boxes whilst training your staff on how to stay safe?

So, what can you do
about it?

Your Safety Matters is all about offering you a service to deal with this headache. I can be your appointed person, on the other end of the phone offering advice and technical help just when you need it.

I can create your management system, devise your policies, create your documents, and train your staff so they know what their roles and responsibilities are so everyone goes home to their families and the business not only achieves compliance, but it sets the standard.

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations - Reg 7 (1999) Health & Safety Assistance requires employers to

"Appoint one or more competent people to help them in undertaking the measures they need to take to comply with the requirements imposed on them by or under the relevant statutory provisions."

The “competent” person must have time and resources available to fulfil their function and be provided with the necessary information.

Why does health and safety matter?

Because its the Moral thing to do.

It is unacceptable to put people's health and safety at risk.

Nobody should leave their home to come to the workplace and not return home injured or ill because of an accident that occurred there.

A business that sees reducing the risk of harm as a waste of money rather than trying to reduce accidents and injuries is out of touch with society.

Because the Law says so.

Managing health and safety at work is not an optional activity.

Its required by law and any employer who fails to comply is exposed to very significant legal risks, both at an organisational and individual level.

Directors and employees can, and do go to prison for health and safety breaches, and significant fines are handed out.

Because it makes financial sense.

Duty holders found guilty of health and safety offences in 2019/2020 received fines in excess of £35million -

- in other words an average of £110,000 for cases resulting in a conviction.

Turning Concern into action

This short film from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of failing to keep people safe at work.
